New Regulations On Gambling In Poland
Posted By Diego | Other News | November 19, 2009, 05:50 AM |

Recently, the Polish government has been
overwhelmed with claims of political corruption. In light of the recent events,
the Polish government appears to be taking populist approaches in order to gain
the support of their citizens. This holds true for the gambling industry, with
the government putting forward new proposals for gaming regulations, many of
which do not seem very positive for the internet gaming community.
The Effect Of The Proposed Regulations
The government is trying to show how they are resistant to corruption and immune
to lobbyists, according to a blog by the Wall Street Journal. The
regulations that are being put forth are, in effect, limiting gambling to
casinos only. This would ban online gambling as well as using slot machines
placed outside of
casinos.
A Closer Look At The Situation
The Eastern European country is under a large amount of pressure following
accusations of tampering with current legislations by a variety of cabinet
members and politicians, according to blogger Malgorzata Halaba. The suspects
were accused of involvement in illegal lobbying by land based casinos in the
country, and forced the government to reshuffle in October.
Financial Losses As A Result Of The Newly Proposed
Legislations
The financial losses in tax money by the Polish government are estimated to be
just shy of three and a half billion zlotys, approximately 1.23 billion U.S.
dollars, over the course of five years. This year alone, legal
internet gaming
sites will bring in an estimated 350 million zlotys, and numbers are only
expected to rise in the future.
